Dragon fruit cultivation method
In Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, farmers are now adopting dragon fruit cultivation. Farmers are earning well from its cultivation. Dragon fruit comes in the category of foreign crop, but its demand is increasing in too. At present it is grown in several states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
There are many varieties of dragon fruit. Purple, redpink and white dragon are cultivated in . In Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, farmers are cultivating dragon fruit on about 250 acres and selling it in the market at the rate of Rs 150 per kg, they are earning a good profit.
A farmer told that five years ago he had planted 2500 dragon trees in one acre of land and now he is selling fruits worth two and a half to three lakhs every year. Due to which he is earning eight lakh rupees annually.
Dragon fruit plants are grown with the help of pillars made of cement and concrete. Its plant gives fruits for 25 years. There is no need of much water in its cultivation. Cow dung or vermicompost is considered good for its cultivation. To prevent pests, spraying of anti fungal pesticides should be done throughout the year.
