Where is Kiwi grown in ?
In view of the increasing demand for Kiwi in the country, it is being grown in many states. Its horticulture is being done on a large scale in states like Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya. Nagaland is making great progress in the production of Kiwi. Nagaland has also received from the government for Kiwi production. In Nagaland, about 24 lakhs are being earned from one hectare garden. By the way, Kiwi is basically considered to be the fruit of China, hence it is also called Chinese Gooseberry. In terms of earning, this fruit is going to give more income than apple.

The major cultivars of kiwi grown are Abbott, Allison, Hayward, Bruno, Monti and Tomuri.
How to prepare Kiwi plant?
It is best to prepare Kiwi plant by budding or pen method, for this remove the seeds from Kiwi fruit, clean them and dry them well. Sow the seeds after a week of drying. While preparing the nursery, keep in mind that after sowing, direct sunlight should not fall on it for a week, so keep it inside. After this, do mulching on the beds and keep the plants under shade till July. When 4 to 5 leaves appear in the plant, do transplanting work, it can be planted in the nursery in the month of May or June.
Grafting- Cut one year old branches to prepare Kiwi plant by pen method. It should have 2 to 3 buds i.e. the length of these branches should be between 15 to 20 cm. Now apply root growth hormone named 1000 ppm IB and bury it in the soil. Remember, it should not move after planting and strong sunlight should not fall on it. This work should be done in the month of January. The plant prepared in this way becomes ready for transplanting after one year.
Layering Method- Select one year old branch of Kiwi plant and remove one inch of its bark from all sides, after that tie soil around it well, air should not enter it. Within about a month, nerves will start coming out of it. After this, cut this branch from the main plant and plant it at another place. While removing it from the main plant, keep in mind that the branch should not be crushed, and cut just below where the soil was tied.
How should be the soil mix?
The ratio of 2:2:1:1 ratio of sand, compost, soil, wood sawdust and coal dust is suitable for planting kiwi.

Kiwi plants need more water in summer. In summer, irrigation can be done at an interval of 10 to 15 days.

Kiwi plants mainly suffer from root rot, collar rot, crown rot etc. diseases. These diseases are caused due to fungus in the soil. These diseases are more likely to occur in the rainy season and summer. Because of these, the leaves wither and become smaller in size, the twigs dry up and the roots rot and the plant gets damaged.
Prevention- The most effective way to protect the Kiwi plant from fungus is that the roots should not be filled with water, that is, there should be a good drainage system.
Bacterial Leaf Spot- This disease occurs in Kiwi plants at the end of spring season. This affects the leaves due to which yellow spots appear on the leaves.
Prevention- Bactericide should be sprayed before bud break.
