    It is a polyphagous insect which mostly affects litchi crop at the time of fruiting. When litchi fruits become equal to a clove grain, the female insect lays eggs on litchi stalks. After this, the larvae get ready in two-three days and enter the fruits and start eating the seeds. Due to this the fruits start falling. On the other hand, when the fruits are ready and come to the stage of ripening, about 15 days before i.e. till the beginning of May, the larvae enter the fruits near the stalk and eat their seeds and peels.

    Prevention

    • Gardeners can use Trichogramma chilonis and Pheromontrap 15 per hectare after flowering in March itself.

    • Gardeners can spray Nimbicidin 5%/Neem oil/Nimbin 4ml per liter of water or Vermiwash 5% before bud break and flowering.

    • Use Carbaryl 50 WP @ 2 grams per liter (1 percent) at pea-sized fruit stage.

    leaf borer

    This insect looks shiny like silver colour. It is also of big size to see. This pest eats the outer edge of the leaves, due to which the leaves appear cut from both the edges.

    Prevention

    • Gardeners should shake small plants or twigs as this dislodges insects.

    • The gardeners must plow the new gardens after the rains.

    • If the damage is more then spray with Carbaryl 50 WP @ 0 gm per liter of water or Nuvan @ 1.5 ml per liter of water.

    • Gardeners can use chemicals made from neem or neem seed extracts.

    These insects survive only on the bark of litchi trees. These insects hide during the day by piercing the branches of trees, then they start coming out in the evening. Due to this pest, the branches of the trees start getting weak and later they start breaking and falling.

    • Gardeners can eliminate insects and larvae by destroying the holes made by them.

    • Gardeners can destroy insects by pouring kerosene, phenyl, petrol or Nuvan solution of 0 ml per liter of water inside the hole with the help of cotton.

    • Keep the litchi garden clean to avoid pests.

    This spider is cylindrical and white in color. It damages the lower surface of tender leaves by sucking the sap of the twig. Later the leaves shrivel up. This also affects the function.

    Prevention

    • Cut and burn the affected twigs along with some healthy parts.

    • Gardeners should do one spraying of Dicofol or Kelthane 0 ml per liter before one month.
