When root knot nematode and drought disease occur together, it takes a terrible form, due to which guava plants dry up. In the initial symptoms of the disease, the leaves of the plant appear pale yellow and the leaves start falling. The growth of the plants stops and the plants dry up and die. When the plants are dug up, knots are visible in the roots of the plant and when the root is cut open, brown stripes are visible from inside. The incidence of wilt and wilt disease increases in the roots affected by nematode.

Causes of nematode and wilt disease

This problem is caused by microscopic nematode or nematode organisms and fusarium fungus.

This fusarium fungus comes in the soil already or with diseased plants, while the problem of nematode can also be due to these reasons.

Control measures of Nematode and Wilt disease

Buy grafted plants only from authorized nurseries or vendors.

At the place where the plants are to be planted, dig a pit of 3 X 3 feet in May and leave it open.

In the last week of June, fill these pits by mixing 20-25 kg of cow dung manure, 30 grams of Carbofuran 3G, 20 grams of Carbendazim, 1 kg of neem cake in the soil and give water from above. Before giving water, level the soil in the empty pit and take out the soil equal to the bag of the plant and plant it.

If the leaves of the diseased plant appear light yellow, then 50 grams of Carbofuran 3G and one kilogram of neem cake should be spread around the stem of the plant and weeded. Make a solution of 20 grams Carbendazim in 10 liters of water and soak the root zone.

After 5-7 days, apply 10-25 kg of cow dung manure/vermicompost according to the age of the plant and irrigate after hoeing.

Later, mix 20-25 kg of cow dung manure, 30 grams of carbofuran 3 g, 20 grams of carbendazim, 1 kg of neem in empty soil, fill the pit and give water and plant the plant by making a plant-sized pit.

Marigold should be planted in between the seedlings, so that the weevil can be controlled. Do not take brinjal, tomato, chilli, okra, cucumber etc crops as inter cropping.

Neem cake or Verticillium chlamydosporium or Paecilomyces lilacinus can be used for biological control of nematode.
