  • Make arrangements for spawn and substrate- To produce enoki mushrooms at home, you will need spawn and substrate. The first step in growing enoki mushrooms is to find the spawn (mushroom seed) and the growing medium for this mushroom. You can buy spawn online or from gardening stores. The substance the mushrooms will grow on is called the substrate and it can be anything from grass to used coffee grounds. Once you have the spawn and substrate, you can get started.
  • Prepare Your Substrate- Various substrates can be used for enoki mushroom growth, however, grass or coffee grounds work best. If you are using coffee grounds, wet them by mixing them with some water before putting them in the container. If you want to use the grass, soak it in water for 24 hours before adding it to your container. Pressure roast the grass for 5 to 10 minutes to kill harmful microorganisms. Once the substrate is prepared you are ready to add the spawn.
  • Add the spawn to the substrate – simply sprinkle the spawn on grass or coffee grounds. After that, seal the container with plastic wrap or lid and keep it in a warm and dark place. Mushrooms will start sprouting in a few days.
